46 chess enthusiasts of all different skill levels attended the Open House for the Ashland Chess Academy (ACA) on Saturday ranging from elementary students to middle school at The Richard G. Gillis Jr. Ashland Library.
Quotes from parents included, “My child is so excited that you are starting this, he loves chess!” “Ashland needs this!”
“Jill and Dan were wonderful! They kept it very casual as to not intimidate anyone.”
A brief informational portion was followed by kids playing chess. The film, Searching for Bobby Fischer, was screened in the background. Light refreshments were served.
The Ashland Chess Academy thanks Leslie DeBlander and the staff of the Ashland Library for their support and for their hosting of the event.
Interested attendees signed up for the Free After School Spring Module Program that will start on Thursday, April 11, and will continue each Thursday until May 23.
If you have a child who is interested in joining the free kid’s chess club, please visit the ACA Website or email AshlandChess@gmail.com for more information and for a signup form.
Space however, is limited, and students will be enrolled on a first come-first served basis.
